Check Aging
The Check Aging report will show you by selecting either debtors and creditors what the balances are between the aging and the ledger accounts on days where there were differences. If there are differences then an investigation into what caused the difference will have to be done.
It is important to run the report, daily to avoid having to go through large amounts of transactions to identify the differences.
Once you have identified the days where there are differences you can then go into the relevant ledger select the date range. First pull the general ledger report for the accounts payable/receivable.
Depending on the volume of your data you could do a search on screen by clicking ctrl +F and searching for anything that should not be in the ledger. If you have large amount of data you can export this into excel and filter the type field . This would be any entry that does not come from an accounts payable or accounts receivable source document. Examples of this would be a general journal to the control accounts or a sales entry being in the accounts payable ledger and visa versa.
